After hosting our annual (could it be 10 years already?) garage sale, I'm only $80 richer and very sunburnt! The cherry on the top of the cake was chasing my 2+ year old granddaughter around the tables, sweeping up spilled beads, replacing various odd items, retrieving items she couldn't bare me selling and chuckling as she shouts to the apparently empty neighborhood, "Hey you guys, come to my grandma's store!". This evening an older, more tired grandma treasures holding a sleepy girl in her arms, as she mummers, "grandpa snoring" (don't I know it, honey!), watching that sweet face as she agrees, "Mommy pretty" and "I love mommy too". When she finally falls asleep, grandma gazes lovingly at her sweet little cherub, and I murmer sleepily, "grandpa snoring, mommy pretty..." I can't help feeling this garage sale has been quite a success! September 30, 2006

What is covered with bruises, complains of being tired and unfolds very slowly?  Me! After 2 plus weeks of "Safety Town". I've been bumped, jostled and hugged by untold numbers of the 86 excitable kindergarteners that attended this July's program. We've taught everything from how to deal with strangers, to Fire Safety, to how to properly hold a pair of scissors. We've spent hours riding pedal cars around a simulated town covering an elementary school gym floor. And after a delightful graduation program including the Chief of Police and McGruff the Crime Dog, the dust is barely settling. Thus I'm finding my legs and arms covered in mysterious bruises that I've acquired who-knows-where! The prize at the end of this adventure is finally being able to hold my granddaughters and spend time with my 2 grown children that I love dearly. Now, as the dust is beginning to settle I'm trying to motivate myself to plan an awards party for the 34 teens that volunteered for this program and jump back into work at the Research Facility that has been woefully neglected. I'm told there's no rest for the wicked (or is it the weary?) so the surmise is that I must have been very wicked...! But who's complaining? I'm already planning for next year's program...
